Program
Our program is semi-structured, with a variety of formal and informal learning experiences. The children are actively involved in activities, independently, or in small and/or large groups.
Pre-schools do not have a set curriculum. Instead, we develop learning programs for individual children’s needs and interests, the words “individual” and “learning” being the most important. Through observations and record keeping, knowledge is gained about each child: the strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. From these observations we design the children’s program.
These learning experiences, or activities, are planned to enable children to manipulate, explore and investigate their environment. They help develop qualities such as independent thinking, decision making, responsibility, respect for others, co-operation, sharing , turn-taking, giving and receiving ideas, control emotions, concentration and most importantly, developing confidence and positive mastery of skills.
In preparing an appropriate learning program, the focus is on the creative, physical, emotional, language, cognitive and social development of each child. Monitoring these aspects of development and planning appropriate experiences, the teacher, with help from the assistant, helps the children reach their full potential through strengthening particular areas of development and extending others.
